William Guthrie 1828. THERE are few subjects or exercises more deeply important to professing Christians, than that which forms the principal topic in the following admirable Treatise--the work of Self-examination. But self-examination is a work of great difficulty, and is accordingly shrunk from, or altogether declined by the great body of professing Christians...

Could not agree more. Modern Christianity or religion if you will would rather take the stand of examining others vs. looking at the real problem--- that 'ol body of flesh which still haunts us and will continue to do so until we're absent from the body and present with the Lord. God saves your soul not your body---- although I'm sure looking forward to that new one when he comes back for us (the Church).

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Haggai 1:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

Preachers are afraid to preach on sin these days, might offend folk. For people to appreciate the positive they must possess a knowledge of the negative and exactly what the Bible, God's word has to say. The Gospel might be Good News, but it's only Good News if you have believed on and accepted.

Your a blessing and always enjoy your posts and what you so unselfishly provide for us here on the list.
