Custom tab colors and sequence gets messed up temporarily when renaming a user book. It comes back to the desired settings after opening a new tab.
I was viewing all book tabs and then renamed a book. The tabs went back to viewing selected tabs, re-ordered them to non-alphabetic, and lost the color setting. After clicking view all tabs, the color and order was still wrong until I found the desired tab and clicked it. At that point the color and order were correct, but selected tabs were showing rather than all tabs.
Here's an example:
