disable popup?

Is there an option to disable popups when hovering over links? I can't seem to find one.

I made the text 6pt so that it doesn't distract as much when teaching. If I make it large enough to read on a projection screen, it covers up stuff that I want to be visible. If there are a lot of references or image mapped links it's hard to avoid popups.

Is it a difficult option to implement that would turn off all popups?

No. I am more afraid of someone turning it off by mistake and thinking it's broken. I will add it to the feature request list.
