Would it be possible to modify the design editor so that the background color control works like the highlight control in the Bible window?

I have been using the background control to highlight my user editable books similar to highlighting in the Bible in order to emphasize important points for my future reference. It's a little tedious to go to the color chooser each time. It would be better if the control remembered the last choice and had a dropdown like the Bible window highlighter.

Another possibility would be to implement highlighting for books and commentaries natively in a way like the Bible window.
