Expand selection with arrow keys

The way it works on my machine (XP SP3), when I double click on a word in a verse in the Bible panel to select it, I then have to drag with the mouse/trackpad in order to expand the selection.

I would like it if I could click to select one word and then hold down the shift key and use the right or left arrow keys to expand the selection.
