I have my preference set so that when I copy a verse from Bible to my user module it is in italics. Now I am seeing that that same line or the next lines after that I cannot have any words that are not italics. Am I just missing something here? See attached screenshot. Thanks so much!

Try selecting the text that you don't want to be in italics and use the Remove Formatting function on the toolbar:
Does that work? Also, before pasting in the verse references, add a blank line after where you want it to go and then cursor back up to do the paste. That will prevent the formatting from carrying over to the next paragraph when you press enter.
