I just did the stupid thing. Its all gone. I copied a module file on top of a module file. It is not in the recycle bin.
I tried the "Save or Load Prefernces Settings" to no avail. Restore from backup from last worked on at 12/26/2024 6:40:30 AM.
Does this setting retrieve that module I copied on top of or just the settings? (I thought it said retrieve a module set)
Can I trerieve that original module somehow?
HELP!

So "retrieve a module set" must mean "settings" not retrieving a deleted module... Anyone know?
This would be helpful in the future. Cannot find information to this specifically.
Module and all edits lost. Experience, sometimes, comes at a cost.
Amen... Lesson learned to not do this in the future.

Not really sure what you did, so can't offer any help. I will say a prayer now that you can get this figured out, or that help will come from other users.

Thanks for the prayer Tim!
Made copy of a book module that I was working on. Two files existed same name.
(ya this is dangerous and not safe; a problem since corrected)
This way I can edit the copy and have the original module in a safe place! Ha Ha Ha... just not this time. 😷 😭💼👮‍♂️
Then I would change them out of the SwordSearcher User Module folder as I edit them back and forth. (learning curve)
This way edits could be tested without damage to original. Do this all the time to learn how to use eidtor. (today learned valuble lesson)
Problem was I copied over the original with the edit copy.
So from my understanding if in Windows ways to retrieve those dleted files.
Seems that in SwordSearcher no way to retrieve a over written module. ( actually thought there was a"trash bin" like Windows)
Your prayers have helped if you started.
Spent last few hours re-writing the entire module
from an old eited copy with only half of my hard work left in it.
Hope to get an answer if a module can be recovered in SwordSearcher?
Settings arent a concern, its a lost or overwritten module.
Hope this helps with any advice, or guidance from anyone.

No, sorry. Your settings are not your module content. Module content is much, much, much more data.

Here is the section of the help file that explains module file storage:

If you replace a file outside of SwordSearcher there is nothing SwordSearcher can do to restore it.

However, if you are running automated backups, you can just restore the file from your backups.

Often, Microsoft OneDrive is automatically syncing your entire Documents folder, including SwordSearcher User Modules, to your OneDrive cloud storage. If it is configured with file history, you may be able to retrieve your older version of the file that way. I am not sure about file history but for Windows 11 OneDrive file sync is usually on by default. That also depends on your modules being in the default location, of course.

If you don't want to use automated backups on your computer for some reason, you can use the Advanced User Module Maintenance tool to quickly Zip a copy of your module in SwordSearcher -- just be sure to pay attention to the "editable" setting.

After Tims prayer it is all re-built. Thanks for the reach out. Simply my fault. At first really concerned but actaully it needed work so starting over really was the best thing. I always run backup when working and editing. Just not this time, duh!
Problem- I overwrote the (Main File) inside SwordSearcher User Folder. (There was no copy of it or backup). No recovery from that one.
That was my issue, I had the only good file inside user folder and overwrote that. All is good!

Just so anyone reading this knows, this issue was user created, not SwordSearcher malfunction. FYI.
The more you read the Help Files the more we learn.

That's a relief.

About 30 years ago I had a disaster where a bug in software I was developing corrupted my only copies of the project and I lost a lot of work. I remember the sinking feeling of realizing what had happened.

For 30 years since then I have had what most people would regard as "paranoid" backup habits. ;)

Thanks for that. I will hopefully learn from this.

I also moved my SwordSearcher User Folder to OneDrive. Now going to make sure that is in place and functional properly.

I store my personal modules in a OneDrive location that is automatically synced. Just be sure to read the caveats mentioned here:

The main thing is, you want to make sure the folder you're using is set to "Always keep files on this devices," so it doesn't try to give you placeholder files that SwordSearcher can't open.

Moved to OneDrive last night.
Today I noticed in SwordSearcher Module File Locations there was an "error check" ran it, some loaded some not loaded long text screen.
This I assume was because of the two locations, so I deleted one and kept the other. Now "error check" is gone, I believe all loaded correctly.
Not sure why greyed out on OneDrive image, but files are there.
SS folder.jpgonedrive doc.jpg
C:\Users\owass\Documents\SwordSearcher User Modules - There is a copy of all files here.
C:\Users\owass\OneDrive\Documents\SwordSearcher User Modules - Also they are here.
I tried that right click [always keep on this device] as you show but cannot see it, as I have before on some items?
Is this ok? Or do I need more attention? Thanks.

This change is better protection for my modules.
My issue was that I copied a module on top of another (having the same name) (inside SwordSearcher User Module) outside of SwordSearcher, using Windows Explorer, in the first place.
No recovery from that, right?

Your last message:

I do understand this, settings are Menu and the Module Content are the Meat and Potatoes!🍲

I can't take any credit. I only asked Jesus to help. I am glad He answered and you were blessed.

Thanks man! You seemed to be a wise man looking at your comments. All I can say is that I am learing and grateful.
