I was reading in Numbers 4 this morning about the regulations the Lord had on transporting and setting up the tabernacle. How often was this done? when the children of Israel were wandering, how often did they stop and set up the tabernacle? Has anyone done any research on this?
Not exhaustive but I'll add this to the list: [BOLDING is ADDED by me a little to bring attention to another aspect of this moving], The terms removed and encamped and "journey*" could also be searched as well as pitched.
Are you wanting to consider these movements as well?
A quick count of the record by Moses showed me 42 if I counted right.
Exodus 40:34-38 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

The tabernacle wasn't built until after Mt. Sinai so you could subtract those out if you wanted the movements of the tabernacle used in the "wanderings". There was another tabernacle that Moses used before the main one was built. Here's a Dake Commentary note: "The tabernacle of Ex 25:1 - 27:21 Ex 36:1 - 40:38 had not been made yet, so this must be the temporary tent used for sacrifices." Seems like most commentators agree. Here's a note by Coke - "there was a tabernacle among the Israelites, before that which was formed and reared by the immediate order of God."
