Link to and from footnotes

I am almost certain that in user modules I have created, that I have inserted links to and from footnotes, but I have forgotten how and my searching has not led me to find it. Can someone help me out on this or let me know that it cannot be done? Thanks much.

This code goes around the footnote reference, here it is "1":
<A href="#footnote1"><SUP>1</SUP></A>
This code goes around the corresponding reference at the footnote itself:
<A name=footnote1>[1]</A>
Note: the [ ] brackets aren't necessary - I just used them for giggles.

After all said and (un)done (did not work for me i.e.), I like the idea better of cloning and scrolling down to the bottom of the page for the footnotes. That way I can stay out of the HTML stuff, of which I am a long way from being proficient in it - to say the least. Thanks much to you and Brandon for the excellent support you give to us hillbillies. MGB.
