The widgets are a great addition to ss but the little smilly face that goes from one tone to a darker tone when user comments have been added, i cannot detect the change of tone of the smilly face. Maby if it changed to a color when an entry has been made. Wouldent that be nice. Thanks.

What if you change to a different icon for the widget? Does that help?
 
The other thing you might do is change the color of the Verse Widgets to a darker color (maybe all black, even) -- so that the lighter color of the inactive widgets are more easily discerned. You can do this in File > Preferences > Fonts and Colors > Verse Widgets.
