Hi, i have been using SwordSearcher (SS) for a few years now and really like it.
Do to different work places have I been using Portable Apps http://portableapps.com/ on a Flash Drive so that i always have my browser links, files, Office applications etc. with me. Now i was wondering if it is possible to install SS on a flash drive so that it can be taken along too.

Presently I use online bibles for reading and Olivetree software on my PDA, but it would be nice to be able to use SS away from home with the ability of taking all the notes and bookmarks along.

Thanks, I did a forum search on "flash drive" "flash" "memorystick" "memory stick" didn't think of thumb drive. :)
So if I understand this right in the other post, it is a NO, not possible. :?:

SwordSearcher stores settings (like bookmarks) in the standard Application Data area of Windows. You could copy the contents of the C:\Program Files\SwordSearcher 5\ folder to a flash drive, but that won't carry with it your settings or license information. It would run as a trial version and you would not have your bookmarks and other data.

I received an email from a SwordSearcher user who said they were able to use this program:

http://www.eure.ca/

to create a U3 application package of SwordSearcher for U3 flash drives and that it worked. I have not tested this myself.

Thanks for the reply Brandon. I do not use U3 and don't intend to use it since there is free open source programs out there that do the same thing.
I looked around on the PortableApps page and found the Sword Project http://www.crosswire.org which can be used on a Flashdrive. It is for sure not SwordSearcher but it has the basics. It has many different Bible versions English, German, etc. Strongs and many other modules to download.

May Be a flash version of SS would be something for the feature. :) ;)

What about being able to run SS from the CD? Would that be doable? And a possible compromise?

No, running from CD is even more problematic since it's read-only.

Well, I hope you'll consider working on a way to make SS portable. What a great tool that would be to have when needed.
