verse widgets

Re: widgets

did anyone notice that double left click on any wedgets goes into a search mode. kinda handy.

Not to sound to computer un-savvy (is that a word?).. what is a widget? I though that was one of those little things at the end of your shoelaces...

A widget is a dookicky, or a thingamabob. :)

When I added the little icon/controls under the verse reference tags in the Bible panel for version 6.1, I wanted to give them a name, rather than refer to them as "the small icons under the verse reference tags in the Bible panel," so I came up with "verse widget." My use of the word is in the sense described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widget_%28computing%29

This part of the help file describes the uses for the SwordSearcher verse widgets:

This screen shot shows where they are in the Bible panel:

Hope this helps.

Ohhhh, I get it. A whatchamacallit...!

I will find out when I get my 6.1. It's been shipped! But we're snowed in!

I will come back to your comments and very nice help here as soon as I get it installed & up and running. Thanks, Brandon!

I'm warning you, you're going to like it, Terri! Be sure you check out the word clouds, too - I think of you when I see them, since it was you who introduced me to them. :)

Just when you think it can't get any better, Brandon bumps it up! Woohoo! :)

I think the word clouds are really nice, too -- but most of the credit for those should go to Bill Bonnell. I built the module but he did the heavy lifting required to actually create the illustrations from the data.

I did see that the Word Cloud module in SwordSearcher came from Bill - I forgot that he was the one who started that thead - forgive me for my bad memory! And thanks again, Bill!!! (I just went back and looked up the original post - you're a man of your word! http://forums.swordsearcher.com/showthread.php?t=1460) I was thinking of the Names of God cloud that Terri did and forgot that Bill was the originator. :)

The verse widgets are a great addition to SS. Is there any way to toggle widgets off and on? I would like to toggle them off when I'm reading through a passage, just like "Toggle Margin Area Display" etc. If not, in my opinion this would be a good candidate for a future update.

No, there is no single toggle; they can be toggled individually. I'll add your request to the list.

Re-reading my post again, I may have come across wrong -- Just to be clear, I just wanted to deflect credit away from me for the word clouds module since Bill did the work. :)

Not to worry. :)

I'd like to give God the glory for any good that comes out of the Word clouds. It was a blessing to work on them. Also Jonathan Feinberg developed and made the "wordle" software freely available for all to use at http://www.wordle.net/

I was glad to hear that Pastor Don found a teaching use for them. I made a notebook for reference and teaching, and also put the images on my iPod for reference, however, it's hard to beat the SS capability of clicking on a word and instantly seeing all the occurrences in a particular book.
