Mac & Linux via Codeweavers

here's their page where you can "install via Cross Tie":

http://www.codeweavers.com/via/swordsearcher/

I couldn't get Firefox or Safari on Mac 10.6.8 to open the "Install via Cross Tie" link. They say, for example, this: "Safari can?t open ?com-codeweavers-crossover-crosstie:install?crosstie=http://www.codeweavers.com/bin/c4p/7588? because Mac OS X doesn?t recognize Internet addresses starting with ?com-codeweavers-crossover-crosstie:?."

Hmm -- I have no idea. You might need to contact Codeweavers for support for using Cross Tie.

Firefox is a resource hawg on mac too. Chrome works nicely, but safari is built for mac and is the best. Make sure you don't have filters and pop up blockers turned off. It launches an app to load the apps.

Once I bought CrossOver 10 (on sale last Saturday via MacZOT.com for 1/2 price), downloaded and installed it, I retried this link, it worked. Maybe it can tell if you have CrossOver 10 installed or not when you visit the site? Anyway, it worked :)

It installed SwordSearcher 6.1 flawlessly into CrossOver. I haven't had time to try it out a lot this way, but it looks good. I've been using SS on my Mac via the free VirtualBox.org virtual machine up until now. I'll see if I like this better, but there are still several Windows programs I need VB for.

I installed SS6 on CrossOver on my Mac a while ago. I tried to link to the same audio files I had working on the Windows side via VirtualBox, and I could only get chapter level audio (which I don't like at all since I like to follow along reading as the verses scroll).

Today I re-copied the original AMG Scourby CDs to my hard drive and immediately locked / write protected them. Then I tried to link to them from the CrossOver version of SS6, and still it will only let me link to chapters.

Does anyone else have verse-level audio working via CrossOver? If so, I'll know there's hope and try again.

Eric, SwordSearcher relies on the Windows media component to examine the audio streams. If the duration of the audio is not reported exactly as expected, SwordSearcher can not be sure that the files match the timing for the verses, and therefor doesn't link them at the verse level. What might be happening here is the Crossover implementation of the media component differs from the Windows one and reports different values. Unfortunately I can't think of a way around that.

I have totally given up on Codeweavers on Mac. W7 laptops are so in expensive, I just like the path of least resistance in my old age. It keeps me from becoming a curmudgeon. :D
